SUMMARY OF THE THIRD DAY OF IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK

AN EXCITING JUMP OFF ENDS WITH DANIEL DEUSSER AND TOBAGO Z AS WINNERS OF CSI5*-W LONGINES FEI JUMPING WORLD CUP GRAND PRIX IFEMA

Madrid, 25 November 2018 – The CSI5 *-W LONGINES FEI JUMPING WORLD CUP GRAND PRIX IFEMA began at 13:00 on the Main Arena of IFEMA. A class that makes the stands to overflow with people eager to see the best riders in the international ranking performing an impressive 160 cm course.

Of the 40 initial participants, only 10 were able to pass to the Jump Off. A fairly tight triple has been the main problem for most riders. However, a very close turn to obstacle six and the obser from obstacle nine, have not helped anyone to finish this initial course without fault.

Riders like the Germans Marcus Ehning and Ludger Beerbaum, or the Frenchmen Simon Delestre and Julien Epaillard, were some of the most outstanding participants of this class who have not been able to get into the Jump Off.

No Spanish rider has been able to make the initial journey without fault, being Laura Roquet Puignero the best classified. “It is very important to have World Cups in Spain,” said the Catalan rider, “and despite the fact that today has not been great, I am very proud of the performance of all Spanish riders”.

The rider Irma Karlsson with Ida van des Bisschop opened the Jump Off, and managed to stay in third position with a time of 48.28 seconds. The performance of the Swedish has been a surprise for many, since she has not been having very good results over the last three days of competition.

Second was the Swiss Steve Guerdat riding Ulysses des Forets, who managed to stop the clock in 47.12 seconds. Despite this second position, Guerdat remains first in the international ranking. “I am very happy with the season,” said the Swiss “to run the World Cup is one of my childhood dreams.”

The first classified has been the German Daniel Deusser with his stallion Tobago Z with an impeccable course finished in just 47.12 seconds. “I was really scared when I saw Steve doing such a quick course,”  said Deusser, “but in the end it’s a matter of luck and you have risk it all”. After winning this Grand Prix, the German rider fell flat on his horse Tobago Z: “He’s my number one. It is the first year that we run 1.60m and he’s constantly improving.”

CDI-W GRAN PREMIO FREESTYLE ALFONSO X EL SABIO

The VI edition of IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK closed its doors with the CDI-W GRAND PRIX FREESTYLE ALFONSO X EL SABIO, this being the first time that Spain hosts a stage of the Western European League of the Dressage World Cup, most prestigious indoor dressage circuit on the planet.

The stands were overflowing with an expectant audience to see how the different Kürs that the participants were going to offer developed. This has been a class loaded with elegance that has left no one indifferent.

The unbeatable Beatriz Ferrer-Salat took the first place riding Delgado, her star horse. The Catalan finished with an incredible score of 81.285%, which has projected her to the top of the podium with no discussion possible. “It’s a dream to have a World Cup in Madrid,” said the Catalan. When asked about her arena partner, Beatriz smiles and says “Delgado is in top form despite being 17 years old”. It is not only a tradition to see Ferrer-Salat at IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK, an event she has been attending since 2014, but it is also becoming a tradition for her to winning edition after edition.

Second was his compatriot Claudio Castilla Ruiz with Alcaide, thus maintaining the position he had yesterday in the CDI-W TROFEO EULEN, with a not inconsiderable score of 78.915%, especially considering that this is his first World Cup,

The Portuguese Maria Caetano and Coroado took third place with 77.655%. “It’s a pleasure to compete in Madrid,” said Maria, “where I feel at home.”

CSI2* GRAND PRIX MARCA 80 ANNIVERSARY

Otti Verdú Vidal, the Catalan who has shined in this VI edition of IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK, has reaffirmed her position at the CSI2* GRAND PRIX MARCA 80 ANNIVERSARY.

This class of 145 cm disputed under a “Jump Off” table has been the perfect setting for Otti Verdú to once again dazzle the public with her performance. The binomial formed by the Reus rider and Top Lulu have been the fastest both in the initial course and in the Jump Off, ending the latter in 32.89 seconds.

Second was her compatriot Paloma Jiménez-Carmona with Sherie Star who made an impeccable course in 34.26 seconds. The British Emily Moffitt took third place riding Winning Good in a time of 64.56 seconds.

CSI2* VILAPLANA TROPHY

Pedro Fernando Mateos Rodríguez and Ultra Lord have been in charge of making the Spanish hymn to inaugurate this Sunday morning in the CSI2* VILAPLANA TROPHY, ending the 125cm course in a time of 51.30 seconds. Second was the Catalan Patricia Segura, an amazon who has surprised the public with her performance in this event, which stopped the clock in 52.91 seconds riding Venu Tot.

The British Sophie Gracida and her mare Atlantis B placed third in a time of 53.97 seconds.

BACARDÍ “MAESTROS DE LA VAQUERA” CUP FINAL

Jónatan Peña and his horse Talavante, winning pair of the I COPA MASTERS OF THE VAQUERA that took place during the last edition of IFEMA MHW, already surprised yesterday reaching the podium of the first class of this great final. Today they put the stands back on their feet, applauding their spectacular performance (551.50 points) with which they reaffirmed their title of COPA “MAESTROS DE LA VAQUER Champion for the second consecutive year.

The podium of today has not changed at all compared to yesterday, as second was the current Spanish Champion of Doma Vaquera, Alvaro Teba del Pino, with his horse Manolete ending with 549.17 points. And José Manuel Martín Japon with his horse Bondadoso, took the third place with a score of 533.16, this being his first time competing in IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK.

Before the Dressage Grand Prix took place the AON PonyTurf, a charity project that has the collaboration of different foundations dedicated to the protection and care of children. The class, presented by La Sonrisa de Alex, has been won by Isabel Mascardi riding Woody.[:]

D. ÁLVARO DOMEQ ROMERO, PREMIO IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK EN LA SEXTA EDICIÓN DEL EVENTO

The Board of the MHW Foundation and the Organizing Committee of IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK have given this afternoon the IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK Award to the Dressage and Doma Vaquera rider, Mr. Álvaro Romecq Romero, for his spectacular sports career and an entire life devoted to promoting Purebred Spanish Horses all over the world.

The founder and director for 25 years of the Andalusian School of Equestrian Art has not only taken this award but also has been given by Victor Jerez, athletes painter, with one of his paintings.

JONATAN PEÑA REAFFIRMS HIS TITLE AT THE BACARDÍ “MAESTROS DE LA VAQUERA” CUP FINAL

Dexterity, rhythm and passion are the qualities that best describe the BACARDÍ  “MAESTROS DE LA VAQUERA” CUP FINAL. The audience encouraged each and every one of the riders from the stands and cheered the perfect performance of the different exercises.

PEDRO FERNANDO MATEOS RODRÍGUEZ UNBEATABLE IN THE CSI2 * VILAPLANA TROPHY

The last day of this VI edition of IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK woke up early for what is expected to be an unforgettable day full of competition. The CSI2* VILAPLANA TROPHY began at 8:00 am as the first visitors began to enter the venue.

SUMMARY OF THE SECOND DAY OF IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK

Madrid, 24 de noviembre 2018 – A class under the rules of “Winning Round” table is synonymous with adrenaline and entertainment, and the CSI5*-W TROFEO ESTRELLA DAMM was not going to be an exception.

The best riders of the event fought this afternoon for a position on the podium of the big class of today. A very squared 150 cm course has been the first barrier that the participants have had to overcome, where the fifth obstacle – a double – has been the main one in charge of making the screen for the Winning Round.

In this first course, many well known riders such as the Frenchman Simon Delester, second place in the CSI5*-W Universidad Alfonso X El Sabio Trophy that took place yesterday, fell off the table. None of the Spanish participants has been able to qualify for the Winning Round, with Gerardo Menéndez Mieres as the best classified with a 21st place.

The Winning Round has been loaded with tension and the public had many good riders to choose from to place their bets.

Finally it was the German Marcus Ehning, known as “the maestro”, who was in charge of giving us a fast yet elegant course, which has secured him the first place with his horse Funky Fred in a time of 37.18 seconds.

Second was the Italian Emanuele Gaudiano with Chalou, who was not far from Ehning, finishing the course in 37.83 seconds. Being the last participant, the Frenchman Guillaume Foutrier conquered the bronze medal riding Tchin de la Tour in a time of 38.08 seconds.

CDI-W FEI DRESSAGE WORLD CUP GRAND PRIX EULEN TROPHY

This year, IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK is for the first time in Spain, stage of the Dressage World Cup, which started today with the CDI-W FEI DRESSAGE WORLD CUP GRAND PRIX EULEN TROPHY.

The main star of this afternoon was Beatriz Ferrer-Salat with her spectacular horse, Delgado, who performed an amazing reprise with a final score of 75.761%. The IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK Main Arena is the perfect environment for Ferrer-Salat to dazzle the Dressage fans. The Catalan has not missed any edition since they began the first dressage classes at IFEMA MHW in 2014, and the rider herself recognizes that this is a competitions she truly loves.

Despite the great difference in score, her compatriot Claudio Castilla Ruiz did not disappoint the public riding Alcaide and ending with 72.457%, which guaranteed him the second place. Third was the British Richard Davison with Bubblingh and a final score of 71.391%.

The final dressage class of this event, the CDI-W GRAND PRIX FREESTYLE ALFONSO X EL SABIO, will take place tomorrow, Sunday, at 5:30 p.m.

CSI5*-W AIR EUROPA TROPHY

Several obstacles of the 145 cm course designed by Javier Trenor, the course manager of the event, have complicated the performance of most riders from CSI5*-W TROFEO AIR EUROPA. The penultimate obstacle, a triple, has been responsible for keeping most of the participants away from finishing the course without fault.

One of the few who managed to make a clear finish was the British Laura Renwick who almost at the end of the race placed first riding Dublin V in a time of 52.24 seconds. Shortly after followed Maikel Van der Vleuten with Beauville Z, who finished in second place with 53.02 seconds.

Third was the pair formed by the Belgian Celine Schoonbroodt-de Azevedo and his mare Venus de l’Eyre in a time of 53.19 seconds, which had managed to stay top of the table for much of the class.

CSI2* RODILLA TROPHY

The Catalan Otti Verdú and the Basque Kevin González de Zárate must be proud after their performance in this event. The IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK Main Arena seems to bring luck to both Spaniards, who always finish each edition with at least one podium each.

The CSI2* RODILLA TROPHY has not been an exception. The large CSI2* class, with a height of 140 cm, was the perfect setting for Otti Verdú with her incredible mare, Top Lulu, and Kevin González de Zárate riding Urban des Grezils, to win the gold and silver medal respectively. The young rider from Reus stopped the clock in an impressive time of 17.99 seconds, while González de Zárate followed her with 18.06 seconds.

Third has been the Egyptian Sameh El Dahan riding Miss G Tracey that endend up very close to the Spaniards, with a time of 18.12 seconds.

CSI2* COMUNIDAD DE MADRID TROPHY

The CSI2* COMUNIDAD DE MADRID TROPHY, with a height of 125 cm was a very fluid class where many young Spanish riders are encouraged to participate to start gaining experience.

Riders and horses got up early to start warming up before facing the first course of this Saturday. The route has not given many difficulties, making it possible for the majority of participants to be able to finish without fault.

The winner of this class was Jose Fumero Hernández with his mare Garsina, in an unbeatable time of 48.43 seconds. With barely a second of difference followed him the pair formed by Pedro Fernando Mateos Rodríguez and Ultra Lord. The Catalan rider, Patricia Segura closed the Spanish podium riding Venu Tot in a time of 51.66 seconds.

SEGUNDA EDICIÓN BACARDÍ COPA “MAESTROS DE LA VAQUERA”

This Saturday has started the SECOND EDITION BACARDÍ COPA “MASTERS OF LA VAQUERA”, an unmissable event that took place in the Salón del Caballo, located in the pavilion 14.

Jónatan Peña and his horse Talavante, winner of the I MAESTROS DE LA VAQUERA CUP that took place last edition of IFEMA MHW, put the stands back with a spectacular performance getting the first place with a score of 283.33.

The second has been for the current Spanish champion of Doma Vaquera, Alvaro Teba del Pino, with his horse Manolete that finished with 281.50 points. A rider who debuted today at IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK, the Andalusian José Manuel Martín Japon who, along with his horse Bondadoso, took third place with a score of 277.33.

On Sunday at noon will begin the BACARDI “MASTERS OF LA VAQUERA” FINAL CUP that will end a competition that began in April and has had seven scoring events before the final in Madrid.

Young visitors enjoyed this afternoon the AON PonyTurf, a charity project that has the collaboration of different foundations dedicated to the protection and care of children. The class, presented by ASION, has been won by Beatriz Plazas with Rocky, a pony who has won all the races in which she has participated. However, Anna Sánchez has had the best results in this I PonyTurf Championship. As a result, the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela has gave her a jockey jacket from the I PonyTurf Championship.

I AON PONYTURF CHAMPIONSHIP AT IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK

In this VI edition of IFEMA MADRID HORSE WEEK took place, both on Saturday and Sunday, the I AON PonyTurf Championship. This is a solidary project that has the collaboration of different foundations dedicated to the protection and care of children.

Saturday’s event, presented by ASION, was won by Beatriz Plazas with Rocky, a pony who has won all the races in which he has participated. Second was Laura Griñán riding Calambritos and third Marcos Maté with Minnie.

On the other hand, in Sunday’s race presented by Alex’s Smile, Isabella Mascardi and Woody took the podium, followed by Noa Gabarrón with Peluchón, and Oscar Hernando with Caruso.

However, Anna Sánchez has had the best results in this I AON PonyTurf Championship. As a result, the Hipódromo de la Zarzuela has gave her a jockey jacket from the I AON PonyTurf Championship.
