The bleachers were overflowing with people at the FEI World Cup Jumping Longines Mutua Madrileñal Trophy, no one wanted to miss the biggest test of Madrid Horse Week, which was broadcast live on FEI TV at 13:00. A test with a height of 1.60m, were great part of the best riders of the Longines FEI ranking competed.

The first sleeve designed by Valencian Javier Trenor had a course with a triple that gave many complications and that several riders knocked down, so very few of the 40 riders were able to finish without fail, in such a way that in the break of the test there were only two without fail. Finally, when the best riders of the ranking arrived, they began to demonstrate their skills, and the first sleeve finished with 9 classified for the next round. The best ranked Spanish was Gonzalo Añón Suárez, this being his first Grand Prix World Cup Jumping. In spite of having made a very good course, a knock out of the obstacle 10, took him to the position number 18 of the classification.

The tie-breaker started at 15h with several riders who could not finish without fault, until the Kaiser Ludger Beerbaum with Casello made a magnificent tour. The Frenchman Kevin Staut, with his great gallop to the last jump, started leading the classification with Aran. Finally, the winner was the German Marcus Ehning, riding Comme Il Faut, making a spectacular run in a time of 43.56 seconds, and being the only one able to make the cut to the last jump. Later, in the press conference he commented that it was not in his plans to do so, but with seeing the arrival to the oxer so close, he decided that was the only opportunity to beat Kevin Staut. It seems that Madrid gives luck to the German, who prevailed in the Global Champions Tour of Madrid held in the month of May. British Scott Brash was third in a time of 44.04 seconds and gets his first points in the league this season.

After the sixth stage, Kevin Staut leads the provisional classification of the European league followed by Romain Duguet and Steve Guerdat. The next meeting will take place from 9 to 11 December in Casas Novas, which hosts a World Cup for the first time.
